Create Your Own Computer Game

Things to Try

Week 1

  1. Check out a Sample Project or two, such as Squish. (You can get to the Samples through the opening screen of Microworlds, or from the first tool in the Toolbar.)

  2. Create some characters by hatching turtles and then dropping shapes on top of them. Animate them with a right click. Experiment with their backpacks (again a right click). If you have a one-button mouse, Ctrl-click acts like a right click. (Note the tabs at the bottom of the backpack.)

  3. Create some backgrounds and foregrounds with the drawing and painting tools. Stay away from the built-in backgrounds!

  4. Make your characters move in different directions and at different speeds.

  5. Edit a character’s shape — or draw your own — by pasting a shape into the backpack and double-clicking on it.
